4 days to experience Uganda The Bwindi Gorilla Trek and the Buhoma Trek
Overview
Day 1: Arrive in Entebbe,
Uganda You will arrive at Entebbe International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Kampala. Depending on your arrival time, you may be able to do a city tour of Kampala or relax at the hotel.
Day 2: Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After an early breakfast, you will start your journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, located in the southwestern part of Uganda. The drive takes around 8-9 hours, but the scenery along the way is spectacular, and you’ll see the lush green hills of the Western Rift Valley. You’ll arrive in the afternoon, and you can relax at your lodge and prepare for the gorilla trek the next day.
Day 3: Gorilla Trek in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Today is the day you will experience the unforgettable gorilla trek in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You will wake up early and head to the park headquarters for a briefing on the gorilla trekking rules. Then, you’ll start the trek with an experienced guide who will lead you through the forest to find the gorillas. The trek can take anywhere from 2-8 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family. Once you find the gorillas, you will spend one hour observing and taking photos of them. After the trek, you can rest at your lodge or take a village walk to learn more about the local community.
Day 4: Buhoma Trek and return to Entebbe
After breakfast, you will go on a Buhoma trek, which is a nature walk through the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. You’ll see various bird species and other wildlife and learn about the medicinal plants and trees in the forest. The walk will take around 3-4 hours, and you’ll return to your lodge for lunch. After lunch, you will begin your journey back to Entebbe, arriving in the evening.
Note that this itinerary is quite ambitious, and the travel time between Kampala and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park can be long. You may want to consider adding an extra day to the itinerary to allow for more time to relax and explore. Also, note that gorilla trekking permits are limited, so it’s essential to book in advance to secure your spot.
