Best of Uganda in 5 Days: Kibale & Bwindi
Overview
5 days to explore Uganda, it’s best to focus on a specific area to maximize your experience. Two great places to visit are Kibale National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, both known for their rich biodiversity and unique wildlife encounters. Here’s a suggested itinerary for 5 days:
Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you’ll be met by a representative and transferred to your accommodation in Kampala for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Transfer to Kibale National Park
After breakfast, drive to Kibale National Park, a journey of approximately 5-6 hours. Kibale is known for its chimpanzee tracking, and you’ll have the opportunity to do just that upon arrival. In addition to chimpanzees, the park is home to 12 other primate species, so keep your eyes peeled for other creatures as well. Spend the night at a lodge in Kibale.
Day 3: Kibale National Park
After breakfast, take a nature walk through the park to explore the different habitats and wildlife in the area. You can also choose to go on a swamp walk or birdwatching excursion. In the afternoon, take a village walk to learn about the local culture and way of life. Overnight stay in Kibale.
Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After breakfast, drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a journey of approximately 5-6 hours. Bwindi is known for its gorilla trekking, and you’ll have the opportunity to do just that upon arrival. Spend the night at a lodge in Bwindi.
Day 5: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After an early breakfast, set out on a gorilla trekking excursion. This is an unforgettable experience where you’ll get up close and personal with a gorilla family in their natural habitat. In the afternoon, take a guided walk through a nearby forest to learn about the flora and fauna of the area. Overnight stay in Bwindi.
Day 6: Departure After breakfast, transfer back to Entebbe for your flight home.
Note: It’s important to note that gorilla permits must be secured in advance, so be sure to plan accordingly. Also, be prepared for some long drives between destinations, but the scenery along the way is well worth it.
